Duke of Edinburgh skills/ Teens Pottery Club

Have fun with clay and learn new skills - pinching, coiling, slab work and throwing 

Option for DofE skill certification

​Note: this club is open to all local secondary school pupils

Join me, Fiona of St Albans pottery :-

​

1) Hand building sessions at Wheatfields Junior School - 10 sessions 

Learn a range of pottery skills - pinch pots, coiling and slab work

​Tuesdays until 4:45 pm - 6 pm

​

Spring 1: Jan 13,20, 27 Feb 3, 10

Spring 2: Feb 24, Mar 3, 10, 17,  24

​

Cost: £160  (£16 x 10)

Location: Colne room  (access from outside door - 2 doors left of Junior school reception)

2) 1 x small group wheel throwing session at St Albans Pottery, Sandpit Lane 

Pottery wheel taster session at my home studio (St Albans Pottery, Sandpit Lane)

​£20/ date tbc/ Optional 

Small groups (3 students) - everyone gets a turn

3) DofE skills : Personal project   **DofE students only**

At the end of the course, the DofE potters will get clay & coloured slip to take home to work on their final project. 

Once complete, these can be delivered to St Albans Pottery (Sandpit Lane) for firing & glazing. 

DofE potters need 13+ hrs over 13 weeks to qualify - the project is usually done over final 3 weeks. 

Cost: £25*  

* only open to those doing Pottery as a skill for DofE ** Ages 14yrs+*

*Done in conjunction with (1) above - not a stand alone activity *

 

4) Formal DofE Skills sign off

Notes:

  • Small group classes will ensure individual attention and support

  • Potters are advised to bring a clean apron or old baggy shirt each week

  • This club can be taken on as a Duke of Edinburgh skill, but not essential

  • Most finished creations will be fired & glazed. EcoPottery activity will run on the last session of term (raw clay + local wildflower seeds - perfect for rewilding)
